In the Industrial Revolution, there were people who rejected the use of machines in the workplace. They were called the Luddites. The 21st Century needs its own version now.
I feel every bit of this. And I am also a retired teacher who has seen the immense damage to our kids They are not creative or problem solvers. They depend on devices for living and it is very sad.
100%. I listened to a podcast with Naomi Wolf in which she stated that big tech doesn't want us out in nature because the sky competes with the screens. Her comment made perfect sense to me. The blue light from these devices is damaging our eyes, more and more children are becoming myopic (nearsighted) because they are staring at screens all day.
As I was sitting down to write this, I kept wanting to try to blame someone else for my own problems. Well, I think the tech Bros have been predatory in their use of human psychology, I was the one who continued to choose to participate in it.
Hi Aaron! Found you from your article on HIH and I am with you 100%! As parents we held out as long as we could with our kids. I definitely don't have the answers yet can relate. If you are open to being a guest on my podcast, let me know! I cover mental health topics and I've done a few episodes on this already and appreciate your perspective -I'd love it!
Right there with you! I’ve got two teen boys(soon to be three) with phones that have no internet connection or fun apps and the battle to keep it that way is fierce. Thankfully I see almost daily how cruel and sick the internet is for kids so that fuels my resolve in keeping their dumbed down phones.

We should talk about this on the next pod!

Yes. So much yes. Thank you (as as always) for your brilliant insight & writing. I’m totally in the same place. Tech heroin. It is real.
Thank you so much for reading as always. I think, as in any addiction, admitting there’s a problem is the first step.

Nature reminds us of our smallness too. Which diminishes the emphasis placed on government and political drama
Hear hear!!!

Hell yes to this, Aaron. Also: really appreciate your recent take on HiH.
Thanks Dana! Appreciate it.
Unpopular opinion- Ted Kaczynski wasn’t a crazy person. He loathed technology. Idk if you’ve ever heard any of his stuff, but it’s quite interesting.
Don’t be so hard on yourself about your parenting. We all do this.
And the truth is, you are a good parent just for being worried that you aren’t.
You haven’t abused your children, mentally, verbally or physically. A lot of children don’t have that.
We all have regrets on parenting. Please don’t be too hard on yourself.
